Allegan General Hospital Hosts Free Vein Screenings

1/12/2018

Throughout 2018, Allegan General Hospital’s Vein Care Clinic is offering free vein screenings. This free screening is for both men and women of any age who experience varicose veins, spider veins or symptoms of venous insufficiency including heaviness or tiredness, pain, itching or swelling in their legs. The screening takes about 30 minutes and consists of a visual inspection of the legs, a quick ultrasound of the leg that is most bothersome and education about vein disorders and available treatment options. The next screening is Monday, January 22, from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the hospital (555 Linn Street, Allegan).

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services varicose veins affect half of all people 50 and older. The primary risk factors of varicose veins include family history, increasing age, pregnancy, obesity and careers requiring extended standing, like nursing and teaching.

Individuals should call Allegan General Hospital’s Community Events Line at 269-686-4231 to schedule a screening appointment. Space is limited. To see a full list of screening dates, visit aghosp.org/veincare.
